Student Spotlight: Olivia Ireland

Senior Olivia Ireland has made a big impact on Chapman golf, especially during her last year on the team.

This year, she has accomplished being a medalist at six matches and won All-Tournament at the tournaments Lady Hurricane and Lady Patriot. Ireland is the only senior on the team at Chapman but explains that the senioritis hasn’t set in yet.

“I don’t think it’s completely hit me yet that this is my last year of high school and my last high school golf season,” said Ireland. “I played my last home match at Village Greens on Monday, and it was very bittersweet.”

Just because this high school season is coming to an end doesn’t mean Ireland’s golf career is too. After taking many schools into consideration, Ireland committed to Lee University to continue her golf career.

“I had a good variety of schools to choose from, but I chose Lee,” said Ireland. “I really connected with the coach, they have a good strong program that is continuing to grow, I love the location of the school, and the campus is beautiful.”

At Lee University Ireland has high expectations for herself as a member of the girl’s golf team.

“My goals for my college golf career is to be a strong player on the team and contribute to some tournament wins and get the chance to possibly win an NCAA championship,” said Ireland.

She doesn’t see herself moving on to the LPGA tour but still wants golf to be a big part of her life. She hopes to use her golf knowledge in the business world and pass on her legacy to younger generations.

“My goal is to do something with golf on the business side, and hopefully sponsor some tournaments or help with organizations to give kids the opportunity to play golf like I had growing up,” said Ireland.

As a senior, the future is coming fast. Ireland is trying to be in the present especially as the golf season comes to an end.

“It’s very sad knowing this is my last year with the team, but I’ve been making the most of every moment and taking it all in”, said Ireland.
