Holden wins 2015 Homecoming Queen

Lauren Holden described her mood Friday night with one word: “dumbfounded.”

Holden was named the 2015 Homecoming Queen.

“When they called my name on Friday night, I couldn’t believe it just happened,” Holden said.

To her, winning homecoming was a huge accomplishment.

“I felt like I was loved at the school and the people actually liked me,” Holden said.

Holden’s victory made her the second in her family to win Chapman Homecoming Queen. Her mother won the crown in 1989.

“I participated in homecoming because when my mother was in high school she won homecoming queen, so I wanted to be like her,” Holden said.

Holden said she enjoyed the activities associated with being part of the court.

“I knew that as a homecoming contestant, we got to take part in the pep rally and participate in all the activities, and that is something I have always wanted to do,” she said.

Winning has been a learning experience for Holden.

“Winning homecoming has taught me that there are many people that see what you do and based off of your actions, make their judgements,” she said. “So winning homecoming has boost my self esteem because I believe that my actions are good and that is why people voted for me.”

Kortlynn Smith was first runner-up, and Malisa Yommarath was second runner-up.
