Ridley Scott’s “Martian” masterpiece

What would you do if you were stranded on a desolate planet with dwindling supplies?

“The Martian,” a prime example of a space film done right, seeks to answer that question. Director Ridley Scott creates a film that keeps you invested and on your toes as the astronaut attempts to escape his terrifying predicament.

Based on the novel of the same name by Andy Weir, the film tells the tale of Mark Watney (Matt Damon) who must survive on Mars after he is left behind by the crew he was traveling with.

The film is the best one I have seen this year and will no doubt be an Oscar contender.

Damon gives one of the best performances, and supporting actors such as Sean Bean and Donald Glover are equally as good.

Scott creates a realistic outer space and Red Planet. He also deals with two tones well, managing to balance humor and seriousness.

“The Martian” is smart, funny and suspenseful and is, without question, worthy of five stars out of five.

See ya later, Space Pirate.
