Chapman students sign Christmas cards for veterans

Chapman students recently presented signed Christmas cards to military veterans and their families.

Students from JROTC, Student Council, Interact Club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes joined together to participate in the presentation.

The JROTC cadets lined up with their swords as pairs of two students walked underneath holding cards. At the end of the swords, the students placed their cards in a box that 1st Sgt. Rusty Smith held.

The cards were signed by the students of Chapman. Inside the cards, “Merry Christmas” was printed. Students were encouraged to write special notes inside each card.

All District One schools participated including HSM, CGS, IIS, IES, OPE, MMS, LMS, LHS and CHS.

The Christmas cards will be delivered across the Southeast during the holidays.

The program started five years ago when a brother and sister from CGS asked their teachers if they could make cards for their grandfather, who is a Purple Heart recipient.

Cadets from Chapman and Landrum High School JROTC oversee the project in all District One schools.

“I feel like the cards are good for the veterans because they need a little something extra for the holidays,” Col. Mark Rumph said.
