Dawkins shares his perspective on graduation
There is always one day out of the year that is the goal for every student to make it to: Graduation Day.
For students, the day is full of emotions.
We all know what the typical day of graduation feels like and looks like in a student’s perspective.
But what does graduation day look like in a Principal Ty Dawkin’s perspective?
“A whole lot of hussle and bussle trying to reach perfection for the current senior class,” Dawkins said. “Adults may get to do it several times, but as for the class, they only get to once. We have to make sure it’s perfect.”
It is the last day of high school for all of these students, but also the last day teachers and administrators will see these students for a while or maybe even forever. After four years of seeing and teaching these same students, it can cause many emotions to accumulate.
“I have all ranges of emotions,” Dawkins said. “It’s bittersweet to see the current senior class go but I am so proud of them. It is both refreshing and rewarding as I shake their hands to hand them their diplomas.”
This day for some can be hard to handle.
Sometimes this is caused by ranges of emotions, uncertainty of how they’ll feel or react to that day being their final day at Chapman or maybe even the fact that they know they could be walking with an honors tassel if they would have tried a little harder.
Dawkins believes that handling that certain day can be easier if you take it slow instead of stressing continuously.
“Pace yourself,” Dawkins said. “Try to control your emotions throughout the day. Just take in the moment. You’ll remember this day for the rest of your life.”
Dawkins puts into words what this day means to him.
“(It’s the) proudest day of the year by far,” Dawkins said. “It’s awesome.”
