On the first day of school, students entered to see dozens of smiling student council members waiting to greet them and welcome them to the new school year.
This is just one example of how the student council is trying to help improve school spirit and make a larger impact on the school.
Ever since the pandemic began in 2020, student council members say that school spirit has been at an all-time low. It was difficult to maintain excitement for the year when stuck on a Google Meet.
And when Chapman restarted, the school festivities didn’t.
“We really feel like COVID put a damper on the morale around here,” said student council adviser Brittney Feagan. “So our goal last year was to get that morale back”.
Last year, student council brought back pep rallies and hosted several buy-out games. Additionally, they developed dress-up days that students had expressed interest in
President Kia Grace Lawter was voted president for her previous leadership roles and strives to bring back the fun in school.
“The class of 2024 is my senior class (and) I wanna give them a good high school experience,” said Lawter.
With all these changes students can look forward to a fun time at Chapman. Between the interest club fair last Thursday, homecoming week in October and many more activities to come, this is bound to be an exciting year.
The next thing students can look forward to is the joint tailgate at Boiling Springs this Friday.
