High school athletics are gaining more and more popularity each year. Most students over the summer look forward to the high school sport seasons for many reasons. I firmly believe that high school students should show up to all sporting events.
Chapman football and volleyball games have already started their season, so it’s a good time to get started. There are many reasons why you should show up to after school sport games. One reason being that it keeps you connected with your school. Being involved with your school helps people come out of social anxiety while meeting new people, and cheering on friends.
Many athletes and coaches say that with the loud support of cheering classmates, the team plays better.
I play volleyball for Chapman, and I can immediately tell you: It is a true statement.
Having friends, significant others, parents and teachers cheering you on as loud as they can for you to persevere can really lift your spirits.
Even if you are not an athlete playing, you should still show up to meet with your friends while supporting friends or students! I know many people who do not have classes with their best friends this year, and the perfect time to see them are games.
Also when you pay to enter athletic games, the entry fee goes to supporting that sport’s athletic department for new equipment it’s needs for that sport.
Even though being loud, or showing up to games might not be your thing, you are more than welcome to show up and buy snacks while bringing up team spirit. Maybe even be dressed up in the theme for the night, enjoy high school and be included.
