Till takes over cheerleading team

The Chapman  cheerleading team is ready to start their season; this year, though, the team will be cheering with a new coach.

Social studies teacher Taylor Till is the new head varsity cheerleading coach.

Till recognized that she is taking over a team that has had the same coach for a long time, but she feels that the girls and coaches have been very accepting.

Till said that the cheerleaders and junior varsity coach Alex Cater have helped her make the transition.

“I have a great group of girls that really make the transition easy,” Till said. “It also makes it easier that Ms. Cater is there to help out.”

She began cheering when she was in third grade for her twin brothers’ recreation league football team.

“Cheering for my brothers is what made me realize that I love cheering,” she said.

When in high school, she cheered for Chapin High. All four years she cheered, Chapin won state titles.

After high school, Till went on to cheer at Wofford College.

“The best cheering experience that I shared with a team was competing at the NCAA Nationals competition,” she said.

Till then was hired at Chapman as a social studies teacher and head cheerleading coach.

“This is my first year coaching,” she said. “I like cheerleading, and I wanted to be a part of it here.”

The cheerleading team has been working hard preparing for their upcoming season. They have their first competition on Oct. 1.

“I think it’s going to be a really great season,” Till said “We have been working hard on our new routines since June.”
