Cell phones do not have a place in the classroom

Jacob Stokes

There are a lot of teachers that do not allow phones in their classroom, generally because of students watching videos or texting in class or something similar to that. However, there are also teachers that do allow phones in their classroom so that students can access Google Classroom and other instructional materials.

Now that every student can have a Chromebook, is having phones in class really necessary or needed?

Chromebooks can do everything a phone can do and on a larger screen. Students can listen to music through YouTube as easily on their Chromebooks as they can on their phones.

Chromebooks are more collaborative than phones and can help students communicate better.

Further, too many phones in the classroom can take away from talking to each other. There is a problem when two friends would rather text each other than talk to each other.

Because Chromebooks are so capable and because texting is a distraction from real friendships, I do not believe phones have a place in the classroom.
