The SAT and ACT are standardized tests that help high school students get scholarships and college acceptance.
The SAT consists of math and English. The ACT includes four sections: math, English, reading and science — the writing portion is optional.
For Chapman students to qualify for Palmetto Fellows, one of the SAT/ACT scholarships, they must receive at least 1200 on the SAT or a 25 on the ACT. Numerous Chapman families could benefit from these scholarships acquired by obtaining a high SAT or ACT score.
However, the only way to receive these types of scholarships is by earning a high SAT or ACT score that meets the scholarship requirements.
For this reason, Chapman should implement SAT and ACT test-prep groups.
Many Chapman students study for the standardized test at home or hire an SAT or ACT tutor. By having SAT/ACT test-prep groups in the school, students can receive the free assistance they may need in a group setting.
High academic-performing students can lead these groups and could count towards their service hours for different clubs they may be a part of. Teachers would volunteer to supervise to ensure a productive space.
SAT/ACT test-prep groups greatly benefit College Prep (CP) students. AP English students are already receiving SAT and ACT prep during class time, unlike CP English students who may not be..
These test-prep groups would allow CP students to receive the extra test prep they need for these standardized tests.
Some Chapman students also struggle with studying alone. By creating a group study environment, these students who struggle to learn individually would have a more effective study session.
Implementing SAT and ACT test-prep groups would involve investments of time and resources from the school faculty and students.
But if Chapman wants their students to believe that the SAT and ACT are significant, an investment is worth it.
