This fall Chapman guidance and administration started designing lessons for students to study character education and career opportunities, which will be taught on Wednesdays during Flex Time.
Chapman’s theme this year is The Family, and Principal Matt Davis wants to focus on students growing to be better people.
Davis’ goal is to teach students not only ways to be better people but also to teach life lessons that students will use in whatever path they choose to take in the future.
“We are looking at career, college and character,” said Davis.
The goal is to make the small actions that make a big difference a common occurrence around campus.
“I want us to be just better people,” said Davis.
Guidance is also working closely with the administration to assist in designing lessons for students. There are a lot of students who still are uncertain as to what they want to pursue in the future. The hope is that these lessons will also give students the opportunity to explore career opportunities as well.
“It is a unique opportunity to work with kids, but also for them to explore different things and try new things,” said Career Development Facilitator Catherine Gramling.
Across the nation more and more schools are focusing on character education, hoping to affect not only the school atmosphere but also the community around it.
“I know what this can do to affect the school positively,” said Davis.
