A letter to teenage drivers

Bailey Soden

As a teenage driver, I know how much “fun” it is to wake up to a car in your front yard with balloons on it with your parents holding a key saying, “It’s yours.”

I also know how dangerous these roads we drive on are. From being in a couple of wrecks, all that were my fault, I have learned that rules are set for reasons.

Abide by them please.

If you’re like me, wearing your seatbelt is a struggle because it is constantly irritating your neck, but if you put it behind you what’s the point in wearing one?

Being in my car wreck a couple of months ago was eye opening. Was it bad? No, but it could’ve been worse than it was, and I thank God daily for keeping me safe that day.

I wasn’t wearing my seatbelt, and because of that I was thrown into the windshield, hit the steering wheel and blacked out.

If I was wearing my seatbelt would that have happened? Possibly but less likely of a chance.

Go the speed limit because you never know what is ahead of you around a curve.

I wrecked recently because of speed, and I can tell you that going over the speed limit to get to school on time isn’t worth it. It’s better late than never. Your parents don’t want a phone call.

Pay attention.

Texting while driving, Facetiming while driving, Snapping while driving or simply putting your phone on the charger while driving can result into many serious accidents.

It takes a split second to cause an accident.

Not only could you hurt yourself but also you could hurt someone else, and being responsible for that is not what anyone needs much less a teenager.

Not only do you need to watch what you do, but also be careful and aware of your surroundings.
