Learning to rely on myself

Bailey Soden

“Don’t let your happiness depend on something you may lose.” – C.S. Lewis

Today girls are constantly depending on their boyfriends to give them the happiness they search for even though it can easily be taken away.

I can admit that I have relied on a boy to control my happiness and look where that ended.

I had to learn to depend on myself for my own happiness, which took a long time.

I was constantly thinking I wasn’t good enough when actually I am more than enough.

I thought if I went against what I believed, then maybe things would work out. That wasn’t the case. Instead, he left.

So I was left feeling alone and hopeless, but I have finally been able to control my own happiness when something doesn’t work out.

I don’t rely on anyone anymore.

It’s not just people that I have relied on but also activities.

Dancing is something I have done for my whole life, 14 years to be exact.

Every time I’m having a bad day I rely on dance to take everything off of my mind, which isn’t always a good thing.

Considering I graduate this year, dance will be over in May for me forever.

I won’t have somewhere to drive to when I need to get something off my mind. I won’t have something to do when I’m feeling down.

Dance is a huge stress reliever for me because the music takes my mind to a different place and I just get to dance. Dance to the music that makes me feel the best.

I will have to learn to control myself and just take myself to another place.

If you want your days to be filled with happiness then learn to depend on yourself.
