Though our world is not perfect, it’s beautiful in many diverse ways.
It is full of different places, people and cultures.
A diversity we encounter everyday is language.
We have plenty of people in our own school that speak two different languages.
And it is something we need to keep alive.
Though it may be hard for people, who do not normally switch from one language to another, to learn a new one, some people don’t see that there are actually benefits of knowing.
Research shows that scientists have proved that being able to speak more than one language stimulates growth in your brain.
It is also said to enhance memory, attention span and creativity skills.
Knowing two languages helps you to bond with other students that speak the same language(s).
You are able to connect with and learn from people in other parts of the world as well, even if they don’t speak English.
It is true that people who are bilingual find it easier to learn a third language, especially if you are brought up in a bilingual family.
Knowing a second language can help you learn about different cultures that are commonly associated with that language and/or region.
Taking the time to study a different tongue can open up your perspective on things throughout the world.
Simply, you notice more.
If you were ever to visit the country of those languages you might not be so much of a tourist.
I think knowing another language gives you a sense of pride because you can understand and take part in different cultures and traditions.
You can learn in not-just-one language, which is a part of making being bilingual a significant advantage.
An example is when choosing career options. If you were to go into business, you would have the ability to interact with other people and/or expand your business to other countries.
Language is part of what makes us interesting or unique.
It’s easiest to learn when you’re young, so take advantage.
And if you have children in the future, teach them as well. Give them a head start.
