Chapman is the second home for the Miller family: Attendance clerk Adrienne, science teacher Lawrence and their daughter, sophomore Elliot.
Of course, for any family that works together, there are going to be advantages and disadvantages.
Lawrence Miller and Adrienne Miller are familiar with working together before teaching, Lawrence Miller worked as an endodontist, and Adrienne Miller worked with him.
“We worked together for 15 years in my dental office,” Lawrence Miller said. “she ran the business side of things.”
Adrienne Miller said her roles are similar.
“I do the same things, just school-related, as opposed to patient and dental-related,” she said.
Adrienne Miller states that they are very good at keeping their school and home relationships separate and professional.
Although this is Lawrence Miller’s first year at Chapman, it is not Adrienne Miller’s. She worked as a long-term substitute last year.
Elliot Miller said she feels comfortable with her parents around.
“They are just always here if something happens,” Elliot Miller said.
The only downside, though, is that they “just know everything.”
Adrienne Miller expresses that she likes getting to see her husband throughout the day, but it doesn’t happen very often.
She said that one benefit of working together as spouses is having a common language.
“We know the same people, we know the same kids, so when we get home and talk about things, we can refer to things and the other one knows,” she said.
