Course offerings should be more focused toward college

The class structure at Chapman as well as many other high schools is pretty basic with normal core classes and electives, but I feel that this can be narrowed down to fit each student more accordingly.

Sometime during your current school year you will meet with your guidance counselor and discuss the classes that you want to take in your next school year. You are handed a paper that displays all of the courses that you can choose to take.

I think that the class structure would better fit students if it was more centralized toward what they plan to do after high school.

In some cases, some students may not need to take calculus if they plan to major in early childhood education.

I believe if you are allowed to take a class that is similar to what you will be doing in college, you will be much more prepared for it.

On the other side of things, our school actually does do well at getting us ready for the next step in our education. Swofford Career Center is the place where students go each day and actually take classes that are geared toward specific things as such as culinary arts, cosmetology, machine tool, and multimedia.

The only downfall to this is that your day is shortened to three blocks, which makes it difficult if you are still in need of credits in your core classes.

Although I feel like I will be prepared for college, some students may not be and will need something extra as such as implementing a class to help students learn how to have good productivity and learn how to stay on track in the fast-paced environment of a university, and if this was offered, I would definitely be interested.
