During the Veterans Day Assembly on Nov. 10, senior Emily Brackett was named the first Student of the Month.
Her picture is now displayed on the 400 hallway.
Brackett was nominated by Media Specialist Amy Ballentine.
“I’ve known Emily forever … and so I know what her character is,” Ballentine said.
Brackett’s effort in the classroom as well as her dedication to school and community service made her an easy nomination, according to Ballnetine. She described Brackett as “kind” and “hardworking,” always willing to lend a helping hand.
“I cannot think of a time I’ve said, ‘Emily, can you do this for me?’ and she’s wavered or said no,” Ballentine said.
Brackett was not in attendance when Principal Matt Davis announced her name at the assembly, but he was still able to present the award to her.
“They came into my Spanish class and redid the whole speech,” Brackett said.
Brackett didn’t expect that she would end up being the first Student of the Month.
“I was surprised,” she said.
