This past school year Chapman welcomed a new addition to the art department, Sara McCann.
McCann transferred from Byrnes High School but has worked at multiple levels.
“At Byrnes, it had gotten really really big, and I’ve heard good things about Chapman,” McCann said.
She sees Chapman as a great fit.
In addition to 13 years of teaching, McCann can mark the impact art has had on her. Creating art is part of her everyday regime that developed her into a more open-minded and critical thinker.
“It’s given me a confidence that I can do most things,” McCann said.
On top of teaching both Art 1 and Art 2, McCann teaches at Inman Intermediate in the mornings.
In the classroom, she radiates a positive spirit that makes her a favorite of many students.
“She is one of my favorite teachers,” said junior AJ Vinson.
McCann strives to unlock the potential of all students. At the beginning of the semester, she gives more open-ended assignments and throughout the semester has one-on-one time with each student. All student work is kept and a portfolio is created so that students can see their progression.
McCann is excited for her career at Chapman and is ready to make good art.
“I look forward to every day with the kids, ” she said. “Finding kids that are creative and coming up with new and different things.”
