If you haven’t noticed, the arts are low on funds compared to our other organizations.
Not just that but creativity in general has gone down a percentage over time.
Sports are more funded than the arts, which is fine, but the arts should get a little more attention.
There have been so many studies on how the arts benefit students.
An effective education in the fine arts boosts critical thinking and can build leadership skills along with sports.
They teach students to be more attentive in how they look at the world.
They also develop social skills that build up respect and awareness of others and their differences.
Fine arts are not space fillers for a missing block in your schedule.
The learning environment in band, chorus, art and orchestra is fresh, especially when students are tired of having to memorize facts.
No matter what kind of learner you are or what level you’re at, there is always something that will give each student a challenge while building character.
Because arts are essential, they deserve the same level of funding as athletics. This would make the arts accessible to all students.
Students are expected to buy their supplies or pay a fee to be able to participate in any fine arts class and sometimes that’s hard for the student.
Why should you have to pay for supplies you only use for school?
We would never tolerate paying for an A in an English class. How is being required to buy supplies for an art class any different? The “supplies” should be provided for the students so that they can experience the benefits of fine arts.
As a school, we should look into ways to get more funding for the arts we offer.
