For the new track season spirits are high and Chapman athletes are ready for a great season.
Freshman Tommy Wheeler has been doing track since seventh grade and is looking forward to improving.
“My personal goal for this season is to get a lower mile and 800 time because I’ve been improving since I started in seventh grade,” Wheeler said.
Track coach Rachel Edwards is excited for the season ahead.
“My goal for the season is to get more qualified for the more important meets for the season, but I would like to see more qualify for region and then make it to state qualifiers, then after that the championship so I want to make more people make it there every year, that’s always been my goal,” Edwards said.
Wheeler is looking forward to growth with his teammates.
“I look forward to seeing my teammates just keep improving because we’re mostly freshmen sophomores and juniors,” Wheeler said.
Edwards has high hopes, but there are still some unknowns with new athletes.
“Right now we are focusing on those kids who haven’t done anything,” Edwards said.
Wheeler and Edwards both think the team can go far like last year.
“The team can go pretty far like last year,” Wheeler said. “We lost some seniors but with some hard work we can get back there.”
“I expect us to at least finish top five in the state if everything goes right for both guys and girls,” Edwards said.
