The Chapman varsity volleyball team has a new coach, Kim Laboard.
Laboard is the virtual lab teacher and is excited for next year and is ready to bring new training in for the girls.
“I’m most excited for just rejuvenating the program, implementing a bunch of new training programs into the girls and getting them excited to play volleyball again,” she said. “That’s something we’ve been missing.”
JV volleyball coach Bobbi Lansing thinks Laboard can do big things.
“The sky’s the limit,” she said. “She’s coming in with a fresh attitude and a willingness to meet the girls at their level and be able to grow in their program.”
Sophomore Rowan Raney has high regard for Laboard.
“She’s been a coach for many years, travel and school. She’s a good coach that knows how to keep a team under control in a nerve-racking situation,” Raney said.
Raney has good feelings about Laboard.
“I love her as a person, and as a coach. She’s extremely fun to be around and makes practices light and enjoyable,” Raney said.
Lansing is excited to work with Laboard.
“I love her. I’m so excited to be part of her program,” Lansing said.
Raney says Labored helps her become a better player.
“Coach Laboard has helped me focus more on opening up my options to different positions, to see what I’m truly best at,” Raney said
Laboard thinks the team can go far with good sportsmanship.
“I think winning is always a big thing but for us, we need to be good teammates, good people, and see how far it takes us,” Laboard said
Laboard has high expectations but with some unknowns.
“New region so a little unknown there but our expectations are high for regions and playoffs and to go deep into them,” Laboard said.
Laboards goals are to motivate and make the girls better student-athletes.
“My goals would just be to be a good leader, and to help them have fun and be motivated,” she said.
