You’re sitting in class talking to your teacher about how it’s even possible for you to have a 64 in the class. You usually do well in this subject, but for some reason, it’s just not clicking for you.
Then suddenly, as your teacher is lecturing you about your bad grades, you realize that your teaching and learning styles don’t mesh.
This is an issue that too many students face, but we can’t do anything about it because we can’t know their teaching style unless someone we know has already taken the class.
In college, this is still a minor problem, but the problem is drastically better than in high school because they have Rate My Professors.
Why don’t high schools have the same thing?
Having Rate My Professors for our teachers at Chapman would allow students to change their schedules to help them be successful in a class.
Learning and teaching styles aren’t the only reasons for this idea. Something as simple as the personalities of the students and teachers plays a big role. One teacher could have had a horrible experience with one student’s behavior, but another teacher could think the student’s behavior is perfect in their class.
Certain students need certain teachers and having a website or app similar to Rate My Professors could clear up a lot of problems.
The main goal of the faculty at Chapman is to help the students be successful. By randomly pairing students and teachers, it’s a recipe for a disaster.
It’s important to make a good effort at accommodating different students’ needs, especially if they are stuck in the same class for four to five months.
Having a teacher fit into exactly what a student needs would set the student on the right path to good grades and success after high school. Whether good grades come naturally or they take a lot of effort, this would be a huge step in the right direction.
