On Feb. 5, math teacher Carrie Forrest was officially named the new assistant principal for Chapman.
Forrest has taught at Chapman for three years and has always been known as an outstanding teacher, which made her a good fit for this role, according to Principal Matt Davis.
“She’s a great teacher, and I think great teachers make great administrators,” Davis said.
Forrest is determined to help other teachers in order to help the school.
“My goal and hope in this new position is to make other teachers great teachers,” Forrest said.
Senior Bryce Lee has had Forrest as a teacher for the past two years.
“I think that’s a really big accomplishment for her, and I’m proud of her, but I will be sad to see her going from teaching just because she does such a great job,” Lee said.
Forrest believes that her transition from teacher to administrator will be easier because of the people in the building.
“I think being surrounded by a great admin team makes it a lot easier for sure and the students here,” Forrest said.
Assistant Principal Amy Driggers, who will be moving to a full-time role at the district office, has mentored Forrest for the past year.
“I know I will never be able to fill her shoes, but I know that I have learned a lot from her,” Forrest said.
Driggers fully believes that Forrest is capable of the task at hand.
“I expect great things from Mrs. Forrest,” Driggers said. “She is uniquely qualified to do this particular job.”
As they have grown closer over the past year, they have learned each other’s strengths.
“What I have been so excited to see and learn from her is her ability to learn new things super quickly, to have good judgment and to ask questions when she needs to,” Driggers said.
As Forrest transitions into this new position Driggers has an important piece of advice:
“I think the most important thing that I have reiterated is that it doesn’t matter what you know if you don’t take care of your people.”
