New “Mean Girls” can’t sit with original

On Jan. 12, “Mean Girls: The Musical” came out. This movie was a modern adaptation of the classic 2004 “Mean Girls” movie. Currently this movie has a 70% on rotten tomatoes.

This movie does resemble the original while adding on to it. The musical version of the movie does give a more diverse cast. Classic lines from the original movie make a return as well.

Unfortunately, some classic songs such as the full tracks of “Meet the Plastics” and “World Burn” do not make a return in this musical adaptation. Some are calling this the ‘Shein’ ripoff of the original and rightfully so.

This movie seems as if the budget was incredibly low. Some of the costumes look like they put together whatever they found on set at the last moment. The use of social media was played out well even if it seems cheesy.

The iconic “Burn Book” loses its flare by no longer holding gossip about other people.

Although it was not the best movie, one could definitely tell it was a Mean Girls adaptation.
