All around the country, schools have been offering esports teams for students.
Having an esports team can have many benefits that will help students and the school grow. We believe that it could create more opportunities for students that aren’t in regular extracurricular activities like sports, band, chorus and orchestra.
Adding an esports team could bring out new people into the Chapman family.
According to Intel, being involved with esports can help lead a path into a STEAM career: “Esports can also inspire students to pursue higher education or careers in STEAM, such as game design, computer science, data analysis, broadcasting, music production, or graphic design.”
Esports at Chapman could bring a different level of equality with it being for anyone of age, gender and skill level.
This could be beneficial to students with opportunities for scholarships as ifsleasing says, “While most are partial scholarships that range from $500 to $8,000 per year, some schools are starting to offer full-tuition, and even full-ride scholarships. This gives students new opportunities to help fund their college education”.
As with other extracurricular activities, esports would help you learn to work in a team as View Sonic says “Call it teamwork, cooperation or collaboration. By whatever name, working well with others requires the development of countless additional skills. Like communication, assertiveness, and compromise. Conflict management, active listening, and respect.”
Bringing an esports team to Chapman would make many improvements for the school and most importantly for the students who might be left out.
