Social studies teacher and soccer coach Will Maley has been on a farewell tour this year as he prepares for retirement.
And like all great farewell tours, this one comes with merchandise.
Maley, along with English teacher Alex Hollis, has released “Farewell Tour” shirts.
The shirt “The Will Maley Band 2024” on it and includes a picture of him playing the guitar during his memorable lip sync earlier this year.
Maley loves bringing out his silly side, and this shirt was an opportunity to do that.
“I just thought it would be something fun to do,” he said. “I always think about things that make people wonder. I like silly statements and jokes and stuff.”
Hollis helped design the shirt.
“Coach Maley talked to me about how he wanted to do something fun as a goodbye,” he said. “He said, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if we had a farewell tour and designed something that looked like a concert T-shirt?’ We showed him a couple of different designs until he saw one he liked. I had the design pretty much put together and then he made the changes he wanted.”
Maley said he originally made them only for him until students came up to him wanting one.
“I just started selling them, and any money we make goes to Chapman,” said Maley.
Sophomore Elliot Miller recognizes Maley’s innovative move.
“He knows how popular he is and that everyone wants to represent him,” she said. “I think he needs to be supported, and I just love him so much, and he killed it.”
Soccer coach Zoren Rierson is also getting a Maley shirt.
“Maley is the reason I’m at Chapman, and if it weren’t for him I wouldn’t have made this transition,” he said. “So I wanted to support that, and I wanted to remember him for everything he’s done for this school and for me personally.”
