Chapman is going gold for childhood cancer
Throughout the past weeks, people have noticed that faculty, staff and school pages all across District One have switched their profile picture to a gold silhouette of a child with the saying “Go gold for childhood cancer” written across it.
“Going gold means that everyone is taking a day to think about and reflect on children who are suffering from cancer,” Assistant Principal Amy Walker said. “It’s being aware that it’s happening around us.”
On Friday, Sept. 29 all of District One is encouraged to wear gold to show support for everyone around us that is currently or has been previously affected by childhood cancer.
However, the gold doesn’t stop with clothing here at Chapman.
“Along with everyone wearing gold, the teachers will have ribbons and the football field has also been painted gold,” Walker said.
Chapman students, faculty and staff have all been touched by childhood cancer in some way which is why everyone is encouraged to participate in going gold.
“We’ve had students here at Chapman in the past that have had cancer,” Walker said. “Along with several other people in our district that personally have cancer, or have young family members with cancer. We just want to show our support for them.”
The faculty encourages everyone to take place in “Going Gold” to show your support for the people our age whose lives have been forever changed by cancer.
Your donation will support the student journalists of Chapman High School. Your contribution will allow us to purchase equipment and cover our annual website hosting costs.
