Students prepare to shine at Miss Panorama

This Saturday, ten girls will be competing for the title of Miss Panorama here at Chapman. While pageants are usually centered around winning, for these girls, it’s much more than that.

“It’s not even for the competition I’m doing it for,” junior Priscila Khiev said. “I want to prove to myself that despite winning or losing, that even being in this shows I have the confidence to push outside my boundaries.”

2016 Miss Panorama Kirby Brown gives advice to the girls competing this weekend.

“My best advice I can give to the girls competing this weekend is to be all that they can be,” Brown said. “Regardless of the title or crown, each and every one of them are beautiful and have a bright future ahead of them.”

However, there are some fears and anxieties leading up to the pageant.

“I’m most nervous about my walk and posture,” Khiev said. “I can get really awkward and I don’t even know how to walk in heels.”

Other girls are excited about different events taking place throughout the night.

“I’m most excited about casual wear and interview,” freshman Carley Wilson said. “I think that part will be really fun.”

Brown tells the next Miss Panorama to wear the title with grace and honor.

“The Miss Panorama title is not just a name,” Brown said. “It’s something bigger than yourself. With everything that you do you are honoring Chapman and the student body of Chapman, be everything you want Chapman to be and let it be shown through your actions and grace.”

No matter the outcome, Khiev says she’s glad she stepped out and took the chance on this event.

“Last year I would’ve never done this,” Khiev said, “I really hope to love myself the way God created me and push self-confidence out to other girls like myself.”

Miss Panorama will take place Saturday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. here at Chapman.
