Chapman faces off against the Bulldogs in a battle of the unbeatens
The 8-0 Chapman Panthers will take on the 8-0 Newberry Bulldogs tonight in a battle of the unbeatens, and the Panthers will be hosting the game.
Last year, the Panthers tipped the Bulldogs by a score of 34-27. But with the remarkable seasons that both teams have had, there is a good possibility of another close scoring grudge match.
The Panthers have put up a lot of points in their games so far and have not struggled with getting the win in any of the games.
The defending 3-A state champions also have a lot to prove this season and will not be taking any game lightly.
Also, quarterback Colton Bailey reached a milestone of 10,000 passing yards while D.J. Twitty broke a record with over 5,000 rushing yards. Wide receivers Richard Tucker and Patrick Phongsat also reached 3,000 and 2,000 receiving yards.
The Panthers have proven to work very well with each other, and it seems that the defense is doing an excellent job of holding opponents to low scores. This allows the high-powered Panthers offense to put away games by scoring large numbers of points.
The visiting Bulldogs will quickly have to figure out how to get past the stout defense of the Panthers if they want to keep up with the points that the Panthers are capable of putting up.
The game is being held on a Thursday due to the district schools being on a teacher workday Friday.
Tonight’s theme is America night, so be sure to wear your most patriotic gear to the game. Kickoff has been set for 7:30 p.m. and don’t forget that Zaxby’s will be staying open later tonight to allow fans and players to come after the game.
Your donation will support the student journalists of Chapman High School. Your contribution will allow us to purchase equipment and cover our annual website hosting costs.
