This year Chapman has introduced something new to Panther fans: an app that holds Chapman’s athletic schedules, merchandise, rosters and updates all for Panther fans to have on their phones.
Athletic Director Michael Petitt said he got the idea for the app at a national convention for athletic directors. He had planned on creating the app for use at Riverside, but after getting the job at Chapman, he changed his mind, saving it for the Panthers.
“I think it ties everything together because everyone has their phone,” he said. “I think it looks good with the Chapman log. This helps, so you can get your merch schedule and rosters and tickets for all sports teams. It’s a one-spot shop.”
Sophomore Sean Hatten said he likes the app.
“I like the app because it helps keep students better informed about athletics,” he said.
Petitt wants the app to expand with features.
“It’s in its infant stage with rosters, schedules and tickets, but it will be a continual (improvement),” he said.“Hopefully, we can keep expanding it where you can click one button and there’s a live stream of a game, and it runs smoothly.”.
Hatten would like live updates in the app.
“I think it would be pretty cool if it showed the live scores like the ESPN app,” Hatten said.
Pettit thinks the app simplifies being a Panther fan.
“In the world of athletics, you would have to go to like 10 different places if you wanted to find everything you needed,” he said.” You’d have to go to Gofan to get your tickets, BSN to get your merch, Maxpreps to get the schedule, and you’d have to buy the game day program to get the roster. It was all these different things that you were trying to accomplish with one and now we have it.”
