Every year, the best athletes in different sports from the upper state and lower state compete against each other in the North-South game.
This year, two Chapman head coaches have been named North head coaches for their respective sports: Andrew Pitt for girls golf and Kim LaBoard for volleyball.
Pitt, who has been chosen two previous times, said that he appreciates the opportunity this role affords but also recognizes its challenges.
“It’s a big honor to be chosen to be a head coach for a North-South because essentially me and an assistant coach now have to pick the best eight players in the whole upper state to be on the team and play the best eight from the lower state, so it’s a huge responsibility to pick the eight best from our area to play the best eight from the the lower state,” Pitt said. “A lot of these girls are already really good and some are committed somewhere to play college, and so it’s up to me to make sure I pick the right girls to better pair up with the top eight from lower state.”
LaBoard is also very excited to begin her journey as a North coach. She credits her team with this honor.
“It speaks volumes of our team because, without their success, I don’t think I would have achieved this goal,” she said.
