Have you ever walked the school halls and looked for excitement? It doesn’t exist.
Most students would rather be on their phones than be present at their school. Instead of partaking in school activities and showing school spirit, student’s attention spans are trapped by their cell phones.
But it’s easy to explain.
It’s extremely difficult to catch the attention of a student when they have constant entertainment at their fingertips in the form of their cellphone. There’s a constant battle between school spirit and cell phones. What do student councils and athletics have to do to be even more entertaining than a cell phone?
Before phones, high schools were full of spirit. Pep rallies were once loud and exciting, but now half the students that attend spend the entire event looking down at their phones. Football games used to have half lots of students cheering and intensely focused on the game, but now students find any way to look at their phones during it.
There’s only so much that a school can do to entertain its students when the general consensus around school is that it is sad and boring.
With students already wanting nothing to do with the school, the phone is a way for them to escape their boredom and despair.
The only way to fix this problem is to completely get rid of cell phones in school. If this does not happen, school spirit will eventually vanish and students will want less and less to do with their schools.
