Performing arts such as theatre, chorus and orchestra play a crucial role in some high school students’ lives. The brave and artistic students deserve way more recognition than what they get for several reasons.
Involvement in performing arts generates creativity and self expression which are two extremely mentally challenging things. Students who participate in musicals/plays, music or dance are given a platform to explore emotions through different things and have to project those feelings to their audience.
Not only does it show their incredible artistic skills, but it also enhances their communication skills and boosts confidence levels. Which are essential for personal and professional success in the future.
When students join a performing arts community they learn to work collaboratively, think on their feet and adapt to unexpected situations. This is called improv training in theatre. These experiences teach valuable lessons in teamwork, leadership, and being comfortable with change. Not a lot of people realize that these special skills are transferable to the real world in any career path they’ll pursue.
It takes a ton of discipline and dedication to excel in arts but it’s very rewarding. If other communities supported performing arts how they’re supported it would result in a more inclusive and well- rounded student body. As sports are mostly physically demanding, arts welcome everyone and are often easier to learn. Students are able to show off their talents individually allowing them to have their time in the spotlight that not everyone gets.
By giving performing arts the recognition they deserve the school can grow more as a student body and boost the overall school morale. This inclusivity will create a more vibrant and diverse society.
