Dual Enrollment is a versatile program offered by Chapman that students have enrolled in and benefited from.
Dual enrollment options at Chapman include English 101 and 102, College Algebra, Probability and Statistics, Theatre, Public Speaking and Teacher Cadet; Landrum also offers general psychology for dual students at Chapman.
Most are offered through Spartanburg Community College (SCC).
There are also dual enrollment classes offered at the Swofford Career Center that are unavailable on campus at Chapman.
To take any other dual classes at SCC, talk to the SCC or Upstate dual enrollment office to see options and eligibility for the desired course.
Students have taken advantage of dual by enrolling in classes that benefit their educational future.
“I am taking two classes at Chapman through SCC in the morning: Anatomy and Physiology and English 102, and then one class at SCC in the afternoon,” senior Chloe Garner said.
“My class, dual credit probability and statistics, takes place at Chapman but is through SCC,” senior Shaylie Rogers said.
These courses give financial, educational and preparational gains to their participants.
“Taking dual enrollment classes can shorten the amount of time college students would have to spend in college, decreasing the financial burden, and these classes could socially benefit students by establishing connections and relationships with other dual students,” guidance counselor Jarrod Ray said. “It’s an easier adjustment as students are generally only taking one or two classes at a time, so it’s like getting your foot wet before you dive in (to college) and get a whole workload.”
Students explained their own reasons for enrolling.
“Dual enrollment will better prepare me for college and my future, and I like taking it at Swofford because it’s more hands-on activities which help me understand the material better,” Garner said.
Dual enrollment also provides a flexible option for busy students.
“I didn’t want to go two years without math going into college, and probability and statistics didn’t interfere with my schedule as it’s only two days a week,” Rogers said.
Dual enrollment goes beyond standard high school classes and exposes students to the reality of college learning.
“Have a mature mindset and take it seriously because it’s a college class and starts your college transcript,” Ray said.
