Petty-Hartsfield leads Panthers to beat Wolverines
Senior Jaylin Petty-Hartsfield helped lead the Chapman Varsity basketball team to victory against the Woodruff Wolverines on Tuesday night. The Panthers beat the Wolverines 66-54 with Petty-Hartsfield and Sophomore Ben Rollins each scoring 13 points in the game.
“Jaylin has been playing very well, and I believe he has a chance to be an all-region player this year,” Head Coach Greg Wilson said.
Petty-Hartsfield also led the team in rebounds with ten.
The Panthers are growing as a team and also growing as individual players. It was clear that they were working together with great chemistry instead of one player carrying the whole team.
“This year’s team is very young and they are coachable,” Wilson said. ”They have great chemistry.”
“I feel like we are less selfish and more willing to play roles during the game,” Junior Brandon Fortenberry Smith said.
“We have been competitive this season and I think that has helped us a lot,” Petty-Hartsfield said. He also repeated Wilson’s words that chemistry was a key part of their success
Now the Panthers are looking ahead to the rest of the season and what is in store.
“Newberry is probably the toughest team in the region we have to play,” Wilson said.” They are one of the best.”
“I feel that if we play the way we do every day that we can beat anyone,” Fortenberry Smith said.
“We just have to play like we always do and try our best on the court,” Petty-Hartsfield said.
The Panther’s next game is against Mid-Carolina on Friday, Jan. 12 at Mid-Carolina.
