Chapman beats the Bulldogs, leads the region

The Chapman Panthers defeated the Newberry Bulldogs 76-64 last Tuesday night.

The game was a region matchup that also helped the Panthers claim the top spot currently in the region.

The aggressive game was very physical, and neither team was ever “out of the game” until the final buzzer.

Chapman Senior Shaundre Miller led the team, scoring 19 points and rarely ever left the floor, playing 36 minutes of the game.

The Panthers seemed to find most of their success from beyond the three-point line, making 10 threes in the game.

Banks Atkins scored all of his points from beyond the arc and finished with a very respectable 14 points in the game.

For Newberry, it was a different story. The Bulldogs could not seem to make baskets and 22 personal fouls did not help their cause either.

The Panthers had an excellent defensive effort by forcing 31 turnovers, which they were able to create 25 points off of these turnovers.

The game started out slow for both teams, but the second half did not disappoint. At one point, Chapman led by over 20 points, which Newberry was able to bring back to 8 late in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Ben Rollins was not able to play as much as he normally would, only getting four minutes of action in the game.

Tonight, the Panthers will take on the Clinton Red Devils in another region matchup that will start at 7:30.

It is also jersey night, so be sure to wear your favorite sports jersey.
