Track and Field preview

The winter season is on its way out, and now the Chapman Panther’s spring sports team are beginning to prepare for the new season.

The Panther’s Track and Field team has begun pre-season practice and the team is made up of not only returning veterans but also some new talent.

“I ran Cross Country and I thought that running track would help me in my upcoming season,” Freshman Carley Wilson said. “I feel that I am best suited to do the long distance events and I want to try the high jump.”

“We want to start the season off by finding out where the athletes are at in their ability as runners and throwers,” Head Coach Robert Gray said. “We are going to use the time trials to find out just where they stand.”

The veteran athletes also have their sights set on the season and on getting back to state.

“I want to break the senior record that has been set in discus or shot put,” Senior Bre Mabry said. “I want to go back to state for one last time and win it.”

The team’s first meet is March 8th at Berea High School and even with it far away the Panthers have this season in their sights.

“If I could tell my athletes one thing to do this season, it is to just commit to the work,” Gray said. ”Don’t be intimidated; do your best. That is all we ask of you.”
