The opportunity to have late arrival and early dismissal should be available for all upperclassmen.
Currently, seniors are the only ones with the option to indulge in this benefit, having the ability to take only their necessary classes; however, we don’t think this should be the case.
One reason is that as rising juniors with the majority of our credits completed by the second semester of sophomore year, we now have to decide what extra classes we have to enroll in to fill in our schedules when we should just be able to finish and go home.
It is unreasonable that we have to spend an entire day at school, taking classes we have no interest in when we have worked hard enough to have been almost done with all the necessary credits to graduate.
Another reason is that some students may not be ready for the big leap of skipping a whole grade and becoming adults even quicker, so they fear graduating early.
With late arrival and early dismissal, you’re still able to experience your last few years of high school while preparing yourself for adulthood.
We would feel a lot better with not having as many classes to be overwhelmed with, but focusing on figuring out what to do with our lives in a not-so-stressful way.
There’s also the bonus of being able to sleep in a little later and be more productive in the mornings, without the dread of spending over eight hours in one building.
As we get older, we should have the freedom and flexibility to manage our time with the responsibility of not being at school for a full day.
