Teachers, you hate some and love others.
However, there has been a massive shortage of teachers for the last couple of years. Most teachers today typically have at least one event that makes them want to be teachers. It could be a teacher who helped shape them as a person or a family member who has also been in the education field.
So why, with the recent shortage of teachers? The answer is simple: Teaching in today’s world isn’t worth the hassle.
Teaching requires at least a bachelor’s degree in some field involving school subjects — for example, English, math,or history. Although four years doesn’t seem like a long time for schooling, college isn’t cheap and won’t get any cheaper.
This ultimately leads many teachers to draw student loans to earn their degrees. So, after college, many teachers may struggle to keep up with loans and the cost of living.
On average, in South Carolina, teachers make $55,281, a country where the cost of living constantly rises exponentially, and wages and pay fall behind, so it’s hard to keep up.
Unless you love to teach students, you could quickly go into a blue-collar job, choose your hours, and make a salary better than a teacher’s salary.
Besides the pay, what are the other downsides? As we know it, the South Carolina Board of Education recently passed state laws requiring no phones in the classroom. This can easily make teachers’ jobs more challenging.
On top of having to do planning and grade papers, teachers now also have to make sure students follow a law that is hard to keep up with.
In recent years, the surge of social media apps has decreased students’ attention spans, making it difficult for teachers to keep their students engaged with the material.
While past teachers occasionally contended with nicotine use, the issue has become much more prevalent. Additionally, educators need to address the widespread use of e-cigarettes, which many students have exploited.
Teachers are needed for students and the country to thrive.
If not for teachers, the future of the US wouldn’t be successful.
Even though many don’t like school, we need to thank our teachers for what they do for us; though it may not feel like it, teachers just want us to succeed. It’s a selfless thing to do, give up many years of your life to help future generations grow and be better, so if you ever get the chance to, please thank your teachers for everything they have done for you, without them you maybe would have been a completely different person.
