Band director Kevin Horton and sophomore drum major Adam Horton are one of Chapman’s most musical duos.
Their musical relationship started when Adam Horton joined the band in the sixth grade. After seeing how similar it was to the piano, he knew he wanted to do percussion in the band
Both Hortons take pride in ensuring the band is the best they can be.
“When I was in high school, I could do things the band director was doing in regards to fixing my section and I took pride in making sure my section was the best,” said Kevin Horton.
A common assumption about this father and son duo is that Adam Horton gets more opportunities and special treatment, but that’s just not true.
“A lot of people think he helps me (extra) with things but he really doesn’t,” said Adam Horton.
Even though they have to spend so much time together, it doesn’t affect their relationship.
Their relationship is strong on and off the field.
“We have a good relationship at home. It’s the same as it is here. I mean it’s no different so there’s no weirdness or whatever to it,” Kevin Horton said, “I treat him like a normal student.”
