Former varsity assistant head coach Zoren Rierson has recently taken over the varsity head coaching position on Chapmans girls soccer team.
This season, girls soccer has been preseason ranked at #7 in the state. This is a high ranking, but Rierson issued a word of caution.
“That’s based on the success of last year’s team,” he said.
The 2024 season for girls soccer went well. They were region champions, went 12-5 in season and made it to the 3rd round in state playoffs.
Although they lost five seniors, many players, including junior Avery Holden, still believe in the remainder of their team.
“It’s definitely going to be hard because they were pretty good, but I think we’ll be okay,” she said.
Freshman Pressley Edison said she believes the team will have success this year.
“They’ve been conditioning us very heavily so I have high hopes,” she said.
The players are confident in their new coaching staff to be able to lead them to a winning season, but they also are confident in each other.
“I believe we still have a strong and composed team especially still having a strong back four and a really strong offense
It’s not only important to have a coach that knows how to win, but it’s also important to have a coach that understands the team’s dynamics..
“I think (the new coaches) know our team pretty well, so they know what we need to work on and they know our strong suits,” Holden said.
Players are looking forward to this 2025 soccer season knowing and trusting their new coaching staff.
The new coaching staff is also looking forward to building connections with their players and developing a better team.
“I cannot wait to build on the success we had last year and to continue to develop the team,” Rierson said.
