With the recent Grammy awards, Chappell Roan has been put into the spotlight once more. Not only did she give a beautiful performance of “Pink Pony Club,” she also gave a fantastic speech regarding healthcare in the music industry.
Chappell Roan is one of the bravest people I’ve seen in the music industry. During her Grammy speech, she was visibly nervous, but she pushed through anyway and brought to light an issue that is rampant not only in the music industry but in many, many other industries as well.
Roan also is unabashedly herself, and that is very refreshing. She always uses her voice to lift people up and will direct her audience towards people more knowledgeable if she doesn’t know what to say.
Additionally, she’s made strides in letting celebrities have their privacy. There was a debacle in which she spoke about how uncomfortable it made her to have strangers approach her on the street and asked her fans to stop and leave her alone. Many celebrities agreed and supported her point.
What makes Roan really shine, though, is that her music is good. It aligns with modern pop music very well whilst still being its own.
She has said that one of her other hits, “HOT TO GO!”, was made with concerts in mind. With this becoming the “Gen Z YMCA” (as I’ve seen in multiple online spaces), it’s safe to say that this approach has definitely worked.
Additionally, her songwriting is fantastic. It’s so catchy that the lyrics can be remembered quickly, yet clever and great at getting the point across.
On top of it all, Roan has an impressive vocal range. She can hit extremely, impressively high notes and can do something called “vocal flips,” which took TikTok by storm last summer as people attempted to do it themselves.
All in all, Chappell Roan is an important celebrity figure that I hope the world sees more of.
