On Thursday, Feb. 11, Chapman held Job Shadow Day.
Job shadowing allows students to find what career force they might want to enter.
Students have always been able to job shadow but it has become more common in the last few years..
Junior Owen Walker shadowed a firefighter.
“Firefighting is fun, and I love helping the people around my community,” Walker said.
After shadowing a pulmonologist last year, senior TJ Pack shadowed a cardiologist even though he’s not sure that’s the career path he wants to take.
“My goal is to have different views of the medical field,” he said.
Both Walker and Pack find the job shadowing experience valuable.
“I think students should take job shadowing more seriously because it is important to find a career,” Walker said.
“It’s a great chance to figure out what you want to be when you grow up,” Pack said.
Chapman teachers such as math teacher Katie Allsbrook agree that job shadowing is important.
“I passed out forms and asked them multiple times leading up to job shadowing (if they’d do it) because I thought it would be a great experience for them to see the real world and what they would want to do,” she said. “I think (it’s important), especially if it’s something you want to do in the future, and see a good glimpse to know if this is for me, or maybe it’s not, and you can learn that earlier instead of spending years in a career you don’t like.”
