On Thursday, Feb. 27, the Mayor’s Youth Council headed to Columbia, where they visited the state house and the governor’s mansion.
Even though they learned and saw a lot, the highlight of the trip for most students was seeing the State House or the Governor’s Mansion.
¨I really enjoyed seeing the SC State House of Representatives and Senate Chambers,¨ said senior Ella Hollis. “It felt very real to be inside that room and be able to see the people who make all those decisions that affect everybody’s lives within the state.¨
The trip was a valuable experience for the council members.
“(On the trip) I realized that it’s not just the elected people making laws, that everybody’s voice can be heard,” senior Blane Fowler said.
