With the new school year comes a new guidance counselor for Chapman’s students.
Ra’chelle Roberson began her career as a guidance counselor in Berkeley County, South Carolina.
When COVID-19 hit, Roberson traveled the country with her husband, a travel nurse, and their two children.
Her travels ended in North Carolina, where she worked for three years.
After a while, she wanted to return.
“I just had to get back to South Carolina,” said Roberson. “So now I’m here at Chapman.”
Roberson said she plans to help every student, regardless of their differences.
She also wants to grow as a counselor and help improve the field of counseling.
“I want to continue to grow and help identify changes that can make our counseling better,” said Roberson. “I want to help high school students with college and career planning. That’s where my main focus is. Not every student is the same; everyone is individual, and I want to help make a plan for them.”
Career Development Facilitator Catherine Gramling said she is excited to have Roberson join the program.
“I’m really excited to have Mrs. Roberson,” said Gramling. “She brings a great depth of knowledge and experience to us. She also brings fresh ideas into the program. And even though she’s new, she fits in really well.”
Roberson wants students to know they can come to her for support.
“I want them to know I’m super easygoing and laid back,” said Roberson. “Let’s just have a conversation, and I’ll do whatever I can to help you. Just come talk with me, we’ll figure it out together.”
