Chapman student leads crayon initiative
A Chapman freshman is bringing color to District 1 and kids in children’s hospitals.
Miss Teen Lake Bowen Carley WIlson has brought up the idea to bring the Crayon Initiative to our district.
The Crayon Initiative is a program that takes broken crayons and recycles them to make new ones for kids in children’s hospitals.
Started in 2011, the program has recycled hundreds of thousands of pounds of crayons and redistributed them to children’s hospitals.
βI decided to take part in this because I wanted to give back to the kids in children’s hospitals,β Wilson said.
Wilson said that District 1 is always looking for new ways to give back to the community and to the country. She said this initiative is a great way to do it.
βIt is going to be a great way for District 1 to come together and also show the community how great we are,β Wilson said.
The founder is Bryan Ware, who felt the need to make a difference when he found out that most crayons that get used at restaurants are simply just thrown away. He decided to take action and do something about this, which influenced him to start the program.
Not only does the program help kids in hospitals but it also helps the environment by keeping the used crayons out of landfills.
The impact of the program is very positive and uplifting and the hope is that more and more schools around the country will get involved and brighten some children’s lives.
If you have any leftover crayons, look for Wilson and do your part to help this great cause.
