The theatre has scheduled performances of “Frozen” from Nov. 20 through Nov. 23.
About 120 students from elementary, middle and high schools in District One auditioned for the production.
Teacher Carrie Ponder said having this many students audition made it hard to choose the leads.
“The casting choices were very difficult,” Ponder said. “We had so many talented performers, and the roles of Anna and Elsa were also definitely going to go to high school students.”
Because of the turnout, Ponder said had to double cast, meaning some roles will be played by different people depending on the performance.
“We thought double casting was the best choice because there were just too many incredible people,” Ponder said.
Double casting didn’t affect how strong the cast is this year. Sophomore Jessie Bridges said she loves working with this group.
“I love the cast this year,” Bridges said. “I think we have some great people and great roles. We have a bunch of younger kids coming, and they are really great, and I truly think this show will be great.”
Seniors Lily Cothran and Keilyn Wilson were cast as Elsa.
“I think we both deserve the role that we got, and one of our Landrum kids, Iris, is Anna, as well as Okalani,” Wilson said. “I think all of us fit our characters pretty well.”
“I got the role I really, really wanted, so I’m very happy about my role,” Cothran said. “I used to love ‘Frozen’ when I was a kid, and I remember singing ‘Frozen’ songs while drying my hair after getting out of the bath. So I have a good connection to it.”
Seniors Iris Baxter-Ferguson and Okalani Fox were cast as Anna.
“I wanted my role because I felt like it would be a great opportunity,” Fox said. “It is a super fun role to play. And I feel like I fit her personality very well.”
Like Cothran, she has a special connection to the show.
“I watched it thousands of times,” Fox said. “My sister and I loved the movie, so it was a constant watch. And it has become a dream role I’ve had since I was little.”
“Okalani just knocked it out of the park,” Ponder said. “She is a fabulous, fabulous Anna.”
Ponder said she is happy with how the show is progressing.
“I think it’s going incredibly,” Ponder said. “I think it’s perfectly cast, and we’re giving a lot of seniors their big moment, and some underclassmen as well. It’s very difficult music, and I think it’s really going to be stunning. I think everybody’s going to really like it. So come see the show.”
