This season, two of Chapman’s varsity volleyball players have the opportunity to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level.
The first commit is senior Rowan Raney, who will attend Brevard College in North Carolina.
Raney has been on the Chapman team since eighth grade. During her time on varsity, she totaled more than 500 kills and nearly 600 digs as a six-rotation outside hitter.
“Chapman volleyball has prepared me to be ready for anything and to play aggressively with confidence,” Raney said.
During the recruiting process, Raney submitted videos to the college recruiting platform FieldLevel. Brevard then reached out to her and set up a time to call.
The second commit is senior Sarah Lancaster, who will continue her career at Columbia College.
Lancaster has been on the Chapman varsity team for two years but has played varsity in the district for four. She achieved almost 700 kills, more than 800 digs and nearly 200 aces as both an outside hitter and a defensive specialist.
“I really wanted my college to be like a family to me,” Lancaster said. “With memories I would never forget, and I have a great feeling that’s exactly what Columbia is.”
Raney and Lancaster have both made their marks on the team, but the team has also made an impact on them.
“Chapman volleyball has prepared Sarah and Rowan well for the next four years as they take on the challenges of collegiate athletics,” varsity head coach Kim Laboard said. “The high level of play and the responsibility we place on our athletes demand more than just talent. It requires discipline, resilience and leadership. I truly believe they are leaving our program not only as strong volleyball players, but as well-rounded young women ready for what’s ahead.”
Both athletes were recently named to the North-South Volleyball All-Star Game.
“These two have left a lasting mark on our program, and I’ll cherish the memories we’ve made together for years to come,” Laboard said.
