This season, Chapman girls golf welcomed its first assistant coach in years — Jennifer Cartee.
Alongside head coach Andy Pitt, Cartee works to strengthen the girls golf program.
Pitt didn’t expect to receive an assistant coach, but with 13 players on the team, he said having extra help has made a difference.
“I think Coach Cartee has been very beneficial,” Pitt said. “There’s a comfort level there, and adding a female assistant gives the girls somebody to talk to about things they may not be able to talk to a male coach about.”
The players have also noticed the benefits of having a second coach.
Senior Maddie Strawbridge, a longtime member of the team, said the addition has helped the athletes stay motivated.
“It’s different having two coaches because it helps give a better mindset,” Strawbridge said. “When you have more than one person coaching you, it pushes you to be better.”
Cartee joined the program unsure of what to expect but with a simple goal: to learn more about golf and have fun without any drama.
“I’ve just really enjoyed getting to go out there and spend the days with the team,” Cartee said. “I love getting to be there and cheer everyone on.”
She has attended every event for both the varsity and newly added JV teams.
Beyond her support on the course, Cartee provides a positive presence for the players.
“She’s been very beneficial in many aspects, and the demeanor she brings — her personality,” Pitt said. “She just kind of fit in with our team, and she’s been a blessing to us this year.”
