Boys golf on course to make deep playoff run
On Monday, boy’s golf recently played in the Spartanburg High School golf tournament held at Woodfin Ridge golf course, a 7,107 yard par 72.
The team had a very successful outing with two-time State Champion Jacob Bridgeman shooting a 70.
The team placed third in the county, finishing behind 5A ranked teams Gaffney and Boiling Springs.
Led by Coach Batson, the team is looking to get better every time they play and hope to cap off the season with a state championship.
“We hope to find some consistency going into region play, and we need to keep up the momentum through the playoffs,” Batson said.
He also noted that the team is proving to be the most successful that it has been since he began coaching. The team has just two more weeks of regular season play before they progress into postseason play.
Sophomore Ethan Holcombe also had a very good round at the tournament shooting a 75. Holcombe wants to continue striving for the best results and wants to keep being confident in every round.
“We need to stay with ourselves and build each other up. That is the most important key to success,” Holcombe said.
Batson also focuses on the idea of confidence before a big tournament or match, explaining that in golf you are essentially playing against yourself, and must have it to play to your full potential.
“This tournament really showed us that we are capable of being one of the best teams in the state.”
